![]() , How else can we understand who a person is except by our interactions with them? How do we know their character, their values, their commitment to their word, or their sense of morality? We have been warned that ‘people show us who they are,’ from the likes of Maya Angelou to Dr. Phil. But do we listen? When we see the warning behaviors or hear those proverbial alarm bells ring, do we take caution? Sometimes the truth is exactly what we don’t want to know. But, living in denial only hurts us more in the long run. How do we face the reality when people show us their ‘true colors’? We admit it. We hurt. We get angry. We journal. We call a trusted friend. We pray. We cry. And, we love ourselves enough to know when it’s time to walk away from people who are consistently not safe- either physically or emotionally. Think of it like having a nail in your tire. You’re either going to face it and go through the hassle and expense of getting it fixed, or you’re most likely headed for disaster. You choose. Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm. (Proverbs 13:20) Photo credit: http://www.Lovethispic.com
