Authenticity begins with self. That sounds ridiculously obvious but think about it… most people are struggling with some sort of “issue.” Whether it be fear of rejection, “self-esteem” (yuck, I hate that term), anxiety, depression, or any other array of dys-function. Basically, most people feel some sort of dis-ease.
Now, dis-ease typically co-exists with dis-tancing from self and others. It’s like this: “I don’t want anyone else to know I feel like this. I don’t even want to acknowledge to myself that I feel like this.” So, we dis-own the parts of self we dis-like, busy ourselves with dis-tractions, and wear a mask to dis-guise our true selves to everyone else.
What would it be like to dis-card the false self in favor of the true self- the authentic self? You might find it’s not as dis-mal as you think!
