Years ago, I left a certain situation and adopted Martina McBride’s Independence Day as my theme song. Even now when I hear the song, it brings back powerful emotions. I had to be brave in the face of the unknown. I had to stand alone in the face of gossip and adversity. I clung to my God harder than I ever had before. I found strength I didn't know existed.
Just for clarification’s sake (for those of you who are familiar with the song), I did not kill anyone or burn any houses down. I did however, discover personal freedom. Every year in July, I am reminded of the bravery it took to gain my independence from a life I was not meant to live. What do you need freedom from... A destructive life path? Addiction? Depression? Anxiety? Anger? Is today the day you say, “No more”? Is today the day you decide to step out in faith, trusting that the One who created Freedom is here now and is more powerful than the situation you face? Is today the day you say, “Let the whole world know that today is a day of reckoning!” Let freedom ring. It’s Independence Day! He proclaims freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners- Isaiah 61:1 Photo credit: pixabay.com
