Thrift Store Makeover: Fall Wreath

11/22/2017

Cheap Goodwill Makeover
You never know what you are going to find at a Thrift Store.  I supposed that is part of the thrill.  I stumbled upon this find yesterday.  $3.19  The only thing that seemed to be wrong was that those little bead-balls were faded.  Easy fix!
Picture
I chose turquoise, yellow and red to coordinate with my current Fall color scheme.

I love the finished product.  If you are so inclined, you may want to add sunflowers, pine cones or other frill to your thrift store find.  I'd love to see some creations, if you feel like sharing a photo.

Easy, Fun Family Art Project

I thought about buying something to go on the wall of my fancy new bathroom but couldn’t stand the thought of spending any more money.  (Just call me cheap.)  Then, the brilliant thought came into my brain: make something!  (This may be a natural first thought for some, but I am a slow learner, so bear with me.)

I started with two old canvass paintings that have been stuck in the closet and figured I could just re-purpose them.  (Come to think of it, I’ve seen some wall art at Goodwill and am now planning a trip to clear the shelves and put those unwanted canvasses to work.)

If I was more of a professional type, I probably would have done something to prep or prime the canvass for reuse.  But, since I’m somewhat of an impetuous fool, I just slapped some coordinating stripes on there.

I used turquoise-y, orange-y, beige-y and gray because I had those colors available due to some Fall decorating and above-mentioned super-cheap bathroom makeover.

Then, I let them dry overnight.

Next, the fam took turns making dots with our pointers. It kinda reminded me of date night at Pinot's Palette.  Only with a kid. And no wine.

Little fingerprints at the top and larger ones at the bottom.  You can’t really tell they are fingerprints, but we know. I guess it’ll just be a sneaky little family secret. Another secret is that the "before" Dollar Store Vase makeover is sitting on the table (shhhh!!).

We used turquoise, gray and white dots.

And, because everything looks better when it sparkles, I used my good ol' Mod-Podge and some gold glitter to jazz it up. Just a bit, though because too much is, well too much.

We like the finished product and think the picture doesn't do it justice.  :)  Peace, love and happy crafting- M

Cheap and Easy Dollar Store Makeover: Fall Flower Arrangement

For everyone who is on a budget or who doesn't enjoy over-priced decorations from the store!

Start with a vase and a few stems of flowers of your choice from the Dollar Store, Dollar Tree, Dollar General, or other affordable outlet.

Paint the vase using paint you have on hand or affordable paint purchased at the discount store.  (I had this paint on hand due to a Mermaid Room makeover but some dollar stores carry paint. Wal-mart has two- ounce bottles of acrylic paint for super-cheap -like 50 cents- in the craft section.)

Keep in mind coordinating themes or seasonal color pallets.

Let the vase dry.

Add a strip of burlap using Mod-Podge (both found at the Dollar Store). I pulled of a couple of ropes from the burlap to use as a bow tie.  This not only added a decorative element, but helped keep the burlap in place while the Mod-Podge was drying.

Put the flowers in the vase and enjoy!
