Recovery and healing are a part of the process, but not the full process itself. There is also this need to somehow readjust; adapt your vision to the new landscape; learn the different language in this new country…. or perhaps, to recalibrate. I looked up the definition for recalibrate. Here’s what I found:
Adjust, amend, change, develop, modify, reshape, revamp, revise, shift, transform (ooh!), vary, adapt, convert, cook (huh, what- meth?!), diversify, doctor, metamorphose (yes!), mutate (ugh, yeah true), recast, reconstruct, refashion, reform, remodel (nice!!), renovate (yassss!), transmute, turn, correct mid-course. (Source: http://www.thesaurus.com) Some of those words are actually empowering. I’m transforming, experiencing a metamorphosis – I’m changing into something more beautiful than before. That little caterpillar had to go to a dark and isolated place (the cocoon, for those of you who missed science class that day) before coming out transformed – and lovely. I’m renovating and remodeling! Every DIYer, contractor and HGTV watcher knows that the tear-down has to happen before the reno can start. My heart, attitude, boundaries… life… are being renovated. Glimmers of hope happen in random and unexpected places, like the thesaurus. I’m reaching now to this next phase of transformation and renovation.
